DECONSTRUCTION OF A MAGAZINE COVER.

The selling line of NME is new musical express, this allows the target audience to believe that they are receiving the newest and exclusive information and that they are staying up to date with new artists or up and coming bands.

The masthead of NME is usually red, as the dominant colour of the magazine is red because of her hair they have used a white masthead to stand out. However on the cover the three main ‘NME’ colours have been used: red white and black which is their brand identity.

The lure of this magazine is that it’s a special edition, this makes the target audience more likey to buy it as they would be buying this specific copey which would be exclusive.

The language used is quite minimal and this cover doesn’t have many sub headings down the sides, it stated the bands or artists you will read about through out the magazine and show’s that Florence is a big feature to this particular edition. The language is formal and straight to the point because the magazine has been targeted at an older audience, mid teen and above. It’s minimal and has not got many lures because the target audience of the magazine are more interested in the content of the magazine than prizes or promises of exclusive information.

The main image is Florence looking directly and seductively at the camera, the shot is a medium close up and her hair is very striking. The red connotes passion which is partly because of the look on her face.  Also the main Cover line is ‘FLORENCE’ which is straight to the point and striking as it’s also the only black text on the cover which draws your attention to it. When you Z read, you see ‘NME’ then you see the main image of Florence then you see the main cover line.
